Frequently Asked Questions

FAQQ. What are the short-term and long-term effects of TaeKwonDo training?
A. Short-term effects include a loss of body fat, increased cardiovascular endurance, and basic hand-to-hand combat training. Long term effects include greater flexibility, increased self- confidence and self-defense proficiency. Most students, whether adult or junior continue to train for years because it is so much fun and TaeKwonDo training allows you to stay focused in all areas of your life.

Q. How many lessons does it take before you can defend yourself?
A. Many students discover that after 6-8 weeks of TaeKwonDo lessons their confidence increases along with their skill level. To become an expert takes much longer.

Q. Is it true that children who study TaeKwonDo make better grades in school?
A. Yes. TaeKwonDo instruction develops social competence, focus, concentration, listening skills, and respectful behavior in children. All of these factors contribute greatly to a child's success, academically and socially, in school.

Q. My child is 5 years old. Is that too young to start?
A. Most children beginning at age 4 can benefit from TaeKwonDo training. The ITA has the Karate Cubs program for children 4 to 6 that is specially designed for that age group. We also have a Juniors and an Adult program.

Q. How long does it take to become a Black Belt?
A. It takes about two years to earn your Probationary Black Belt...if you train 3 days a week and test every two months. Just remember that Black Belt just means that you have begun...TaeKwonDo is lifelong activity.... Black Belt rank is just one of many fulfilling goals that will become available to you when you join.

Q. Am I too old to take TaeKwonDo?
A. TaeKwonDo training can be very beneficial no matter what age you are. Your instructor will adapt your training to your needs and you will make physical and mental progress you may have never thought possible.

Q. How expensive is it to join?
A. A membership in an ITA TaeKwonDo center is very inexpensive. It will be about the same as cable TV & your telephone service. We start all students on a $19.95 starter course. Your first class is always free! You and/or your children are well worth it!
